PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It appears that with the coming of the fall season, events and experiences occur.  This is the same with DCMSA.  Our board agenda, programs, committee meetings and projects begin anew.  This was especially true for the month of September.  Our board meeting took place on September 11th and was followed by the 5th District Luncheon.  Incoming PMSA President, Maureen Callahan spoke about her goals and aspirations for her presidency and she was presented with a black leather Coach briefcase which was a gift from DCMSA (her county Alliance). It was reported to have been a well-planned and entertaining event.  Thank you to all of those who planned the luncheon, especially Tina Powers and Marcy Parnes.

The month of October is also looking to be exciting.  The October board meeting will begin

at 9:30am on October 9th at St. Joseph’s Church, Brindle Hall.and
will be followed at 11:30am with a program for all members on the traditions and customs of Iraq.  Members will dine on a traditional Middle Eastern meal while two young women will model Iraqi dress.  The program will be presented by Raz Abdulqidar who is on the Council of International Affairs at Lebanon Valley College.  She will address language, dating customs and social events of her native country, Iraq.  Also featured will be Dr. Goodspeed who is a surgeon from the Penn State Hershey Medical Center who did military service at a surgical hospital in Iraq.  I had the opportunity to hear Dr. Goodspeed’s presentation last spring and I found it to be quite fascinating.  I hope everyone will make an effort to attend.

On October 21 and 22, the PMSA Convention will take place at the Hershey Lodge. There will be a Silent Auction and Gala with a nautical theme on Saturday evening.  Our basket for the auction is being prepared by Deb Camponovo and Jane Austin.  Sunday begins with the important task of voting, which will be done by our delegates.  All this will be followed by Maureen Callahan’s installation and a reception, hosted by DMS and DMSA in Maureen’s honor.

This month the SAVE and Hands volunteers are slated to begin programs in the area schools.  At the end of the month  a “Blitz Day” will occur at which volunteers all arrive at the same school to read the Hands Are Not For Hitting book to as many classes as possible on the same morning.

At the end of the month you will have the opportunity to attend our new book club.  The first meeting will be held at the home of Maureen Callahan.

This will be a month with many different activities for you to participate in, should you choose to do so..  The above highlights are just a few choices for involvement.  I am looking forward to sharing many of these experiences with you.
