What Is BIM?
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
BIM is a digital model of the physical and functional characteristics of a building that includes all its information and data. The digital model goes beyond the concept of simply creating a three-dimensional (3D) shape of the building. In Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, the model refers to a five-dimensional (5D) simulation of the building. This consists of an integrated three-dimensional (3D) design model that includes details of the architectural, structural, electro-mechanical designs, and interior design. The model also encompasses time as the 4th dimension (4D), which provides a visualization of the project’s timeline and schedule. Finally, the model includes the cost factor (5D), which gives an accurate estimate of the project's cost at all stages, along with bill quantities of resources materials required. BIM technology facilitates coordination and integration among various disciplines (architectural, structural, electro-mechanical, etc.), reducing the likelihood of conflicts or design errors. Additionally, it helps save time and costs, improves execution quality, and aids project management by enabling decisions based on precise information regarding the timeline, costs, and required resources. After project completion, the BIM model of the building can be used during the operation and maintenance phase, contributing to the sustainability of the building by enhancing maintenance quality and energy efficiency.
